Here’s a few bits of info I’ve collected to get us started….
Literature – “Writings in which expression and form, in connection with ideas of permanent and universal interest,are characteristic or essential features, as poetry, novels, history, biography, and essays.” – Dictionary.com
Mainstream – “The principal or dominant course, tendency, or trend” – Dictionary.com
Modern – “Of or pertaining to present and recent time; not ancient or remote” – Dictionary.com
Shakespeare – Born 1564; Died 1616. AKA “Bard of Avon”. 38 plays (although thought to have written more), 154 Sonnets + other works. Married to Anne Hathaway. Known for performing his later plays in the original Globe theatre, which burnt down in 1613 and rebuilt 1614 before closing in 1642.
Austen – Born 1775; Died 1817. 4 books published during her life (Sense and sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, & Mansfield Park) and 2 after her death (Northanger Abbey, & Persuasions). She also began a 7th book (Sanditon) but died before finishing.
Rowling – Born 1965 (49). Most well knob for the Harry Potter series, but has also written several others, including 2 under the pen name ‘Robert Galbraith’. Total published: 10 children’s books, 3 adults books, & 2 shot stories. In 5 years went from living on government benefit to multimillionaire
Meyers (nee. Morgan) – Born 1973 (40). Most well known for Twilight saga. Total published: 4 twilight books (+ a Guide, and a Novella), one other book ‘The Host’, and 1 short story
